Countries made their first decision on the first day of COP28 to launch a fund to cover loss and damage in climate-vulnerable nations.  

The Loss and Damage fund is a pivotal moment for climate-vulnerable nations, and an important first step to rebuild trust and confidence at the UN talks 

The new COP28 President, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, said he was “laser focused” on keeping within reach a globally agreed warming limit of 1.5oC.   

The United Nations says that more than 97,300 delegates have registered for the event, making this the biggest-ever COP.
